2013 RULES PROPOSALS

Rule#1 – Intermediate Street Tire (formerly proposed as Tuner Class)

Proposal: Create a season championship eligible class exclusively for newer drivers – Tuner Car (TC).

Tuner Car (TC): Two Tuner Car classes will be provided, one Open and one Ladies. Drivers eligible for this class will have less than 2 years of Solo competition experience. Participation will be at the discretion of the Solo Director or Manager. All cars meeting the following requirements will be eligible to compete: vehicles must be licensed and street legal, compete on DOT Street-legal tires with a tread wear rating of 140 or greater, and pass the safety and tech inspection. Times will not be indexed. The year-end champion will not be eligible for this class in subsequent years.

Rationale: Getting started and hooked on autox often takes more than one event. For some newer drivers it can be discouraging to have to jump into the heavy competition in the regular classes after only three events, which is the limit of the Novice class. There’s also plenty to learn about autox without having to worry about figuring out which class(es) their car is eligible for right away. The intent of the Tuner Car class is to help new drivers “over the hump” - to encourage them to participate in multiple events by making it simple and easy to participate in a season championship eligible class. The hope is that this will improve retention of new drivers.

Discussion – None.

MOTION APPROVED.

Rule #2 – Award

Existing

22.  AWARDS

Trophies will be awarded at all events according to participation levels as follows: one trophy for every three competitors in a class, rounded to the next whole number.  For example, for seven competitors, three trophies will be awarded. To be eligible for a year-end award in a class, a competitor must have competed in the required number of events in the class.  The required number of events is determined by the following formula: (no. of events)/2 + 2, rounded to the next whole number. Thus, the best 6 events are counted for an 8-event series, 7 for a 9-event series, and 7 for a 10-event series. There are no year-end awards for Novice classes. In addition to year-end class awards, a Worker of the Year and Novice Driver of the Year will be selected.

Rationale:   Removes the requirement to hand out “Per-Event” trophies.

Discussion – Takes the requirement away.  Author felt that there has been good discussion at the last two events and we have a good plan moving forward.  Some disagreed that without a consistent effort at every single event it would only cause more frustration for people competing.

MOTION FAILED – VOTE OF 3 FOR AND 11 AGAINST. RULE DOES NOT CHANGE.

Rule #3 – All runs count for everyone.

Proposal – Eliminate the current structure of offering three timed runs only in the PAX class.  All timed runs would count for competition.

Rational – Author felt that having the class only run with three runs counting did not provide an opportunity to have a fair playing field due to various tires sizes, etc.  He also felt that limiting it to three runs did not make our region a better place to compete.

MOTION FAILED. VOTE OF 1 FOR AND 13 AGAINST. RULE DOES NOT CHANGE.

Sponsorships – For 2013 we have an agreement from Dirt Fish to continue their sponsorship of the Novice Program.  Tight n' Tidy has also agreed to continue on as our Pro Solo series.  In interest of finding a new title sponsor Tasha has contacted Petrol Data to find out if they have any desire to fill this spot.  If this doesn't work out she has one or two additional ideas of groups that may be interested.

Specialty Chiefs – Jessica and Kit Gauthier have filled the open NS Chief of Grid position.  Joel Ferguson and Brian Williams have both agreed to continue as Chief of Novice, Keith and Kristi have stepped out of the Stock half of Chief of Workers.

Event Chairs – Still need volunteers. Many events are open. Anyone interested should let Dick or Tasha know.

Novice School -  The school in 2012 broke even financially. Joel would like to run the school in the same format. He would like to charge the same price, but it was brought to his attention that the cost of BMP has gone up.  The group agreed that this should not be a money maker and everyone agreed to keep it at $50 per person.

Meeting locations – As of now, we will continue to meet at Bogart's but it is difficult for some people, especially those in the North end to get too.  Please let Dick know if you can come up with a spot that is conveniently located near 1-90 on the East side.

Meeting adjourned at 7:42 pm
