How
do I Start?
The best way to
get started is to simply jump in and try it. All you need is a drivers
license, a technically sound car, enthusiasm, and $25 (Only $20
for SCCA members!). It's that simple! A Snell certified
1995 or newer helmet is also required, but loaner helmets are available
at the events. Helmets with only a DOT rating are not allowed due to our
insurance requirements.
Don't worry about
not knowing what to do or not being any good at it. NWR has a active and
popular novice program headed up by our
novice chair.
This person and others will be glad to help you through the day, and
give you some driving tips as well!
What is Solo II?
It's a lot like Snow Ski racing, except with cars. Basically, it's a
timed event, with each competitor negotiating the designated course in
the least amount of time. Electronic timers log the time to a thousandth
of a second. Each entrant gets 3 or 4 attempts at the course, with the
best one used for the competition. Penalties are added to a time if the
driver deviates from the course. Speeds are around 20 to 60 MPH, with
very little risk to either the car or participant.
Want to know more
about starting Solo II? Then check out the
Novice
Handbook put together by Kate Hughes of the Glen Region of the SCCA.
Most of this will apply to our NWR, but keep in mind, all regions do
things a little different. Also, here are a couple of links to some
other good introductory articles:

on upcoming events visit the
Puget Sound Autocross
Calendar for more information on where and when the next SCCA or
other sanctioned club event is.
What class
is my car in? Consult the
Car Classification Worksheet for an idea on what type of class you
should run your car in. Also, you can consult the
SCCA rules
for which specific class your car would run in.
