Rally Committee Minutes
1997 Archive

December 1997

The meeting was called to order at 8:08 PM. The following were in attendance: Ray & Janice Damitio, Amity Trowbridge, Catherine Roso, Mike Nagel, Rich Olmstead, Paul Taylor & wife, Terry & Kirk Simons, John Forespring, John Nispel, Gail, Rick Damitio, and Kevin & Lynn Needham.

No one went to the Region meeting on December 1, 1997.

Janice talked with Ben Bradley about having an "after" party after the Banquet on January 17. There was open discussion on this topic.

Workers Party - January 24 - John Forespring will talk to Navone Waterhouse about contacting South Puget Sound Community College. We’ve held the party there before and it’s worked out fine. Mailings need to go out soon!!!

Ray Damitio moved that the minutes of the previous meeting, November 6, 1997, be accepted as printed. It was seconded, voted and approved.

There was considerable discussion on the Twin Divisional Rally held November 8-9, 1997. John Forespring brought up several topics including, but not limited to:

1. Review entry forms for corrections
2. Spectators crossing roads only with Marshall assistance
3. EMT’s and Ham’s very cooperative
4. Price of dinner tickets
Reno Rally - December 4, 1997
Much discussion on this event. There were only 4 cars participating. Even though the roads changed daily, everyone seemed to be happy with them. The local high school put on the Spaghetti Dinner Saturday night. They were raising money for uniforms. Some of the costs that need to be paid include:

193.46   Diane Duran
200.00   Trophies (approx. cost)
1,065.00   Insurance Deposit
275.00   Sanction Fee
75.00   BLM
374.00   Breakfast
$2,182.46
John Forespring had a meeting with Little Creek Casino. They still owe us $2,000.00. The lady we used to deal with changed the contract to read $2,000 instead of the $4,000 we thought we were going to receive. We will probably not be receiving the balance of $2,000. The casino is only interested in promoting itself for people in the 985xx zip code. John suggested they attend some of the workers meetings. He also asked for $400 for Ray’s event and $4,000 for the Wild West Rally.

Ray Damitio had a list of drivers that needed to be seeded for the coming year. John Forespring helped along with suggestions from those in attendance. After the new list is run we need to be sure everyone is a member of the Northwest Region.

Terry Simons who was representing the Rainier group talked about helping with the Solo Tour cookouts. They need money for worker equipment, etc. There was a coin toss and the Rainier group will be doing the cookout on July 18-19, 1998.

Kevin Needham has gas receipts from the November rally. They are from the District 6 van used by Charlie and Janelle. He was told to send them to Greg Lund.

Catherine Roso talked about attending the Oregon Rally meetings. The feeling she got was "What was her agenda?" at being there. The Northwest Region was not even included in their minutes. She would like to see a national event held there. The Oregon group was not open minded.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 PM.

November 6, 1997

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 PM. The following were in attendance:
John Nispel, John Forespring, Rich Olmstead, Paul Taylor, Lee Chambers, Marie Chambers, Ben Bradley, Diane Duran, Lynn Needham, & Kevin Needham.

New Business:
It was brought to our attention that is has been six years since we turned in our tax return. Since we failed to do this we lost our tax exempt status.
We will need to pay all back taxes and penalties to regain our status.
Diane Duran knows someone who prepares tax returns. She will check and see it they can help us.

We will have our new t-shirts for the upcoming weekend rally.

Next summer at the Boeing Space Center in Kent will be two events where we can flip some hamburgers and raise some money. They are: Solo Tour July 18-19 and the National Pro Solo Tour July 25-26. We will need to get a crew together. Diane volunteered to help with the purchase of food at a wholesale price. She also noted that we should check into food handlers licenses.

Regional Banquet will be January 17, 1998 at Emerald Downs Race Track. Nominations for regional awards are:
Mary Pang Unsung Hero: Paul Peck
Manley Enthusiast of the Year: John Nispel
Stan Burnett Inspirational Award: Ray & Janice Damitio
Joe Henderson Memorial Award: no one nominated

Our banquet will be January 24, 1998.
Nominations for rally only awards are:
Rosemary Tindall Award: Mike & Gretchen Jones, Kevin & Lynn Needham
George Mesa Award: Joe & Navone Waterhouse, Jim & Cristy Brazeale

It was moved by John Forespring, seconded, voted and passed to create a non-rally member award to go to a volunteer that is a non-SCCA member. We will start raising money to establish this award. The criteria for this award would be a volunteer enthusiast.

It was moved by John Forespring, seconded, voted and passed to have the board pay for the Hamm Coordinators to become SCCA members.

Next Year Events:
Doo-Wops I and II will be February 14 & 15, 1998
Doo-Wops III and IV will be March 14 & 15, 1998
Wild West National Event will be April 17 & 18, 1998

There were concerns that we are not having a National event in the Fall of 1998. We need to check with Bob Grass on this.

Old Business:

Reno Rally - December 6, 1997
John Forespring checked out and reviewed the roads. Fernly, NV will be our headquarters instead of Reno. Awards breakfast will be on Sunday morning.

Reno Region will not be sanctioning this rally. Are we interested? Some of the considerations are:

$225 - Entry Fee
$70 - Insurance
$20 - Sanction Fee
Trophies will be of minimal cost.

It was moved by John Nispel, seconded, voted and passed to have the NW Region
sponsor the Reno Rally with the following conditions being met:
1. Room Rate guaranteed at $35 per night
2. Road use guaranteed
3. 25 workers guaranteed

Our next meeting will be on December 11, 1997. It was moved from December 4 due to the Reno Rally.

Littlerock Fire Department has some used backboards they are willing to let us have. Kevin Needham asked that we pay them $25 per board. It was moved by Rich Olmstead, seconded, voted and passed to pay Littlerock $25 per backboard.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 PM.
