Edge of the Rock will be held under the Rally General Competition Rules of the Canadian Association of Rallysport, the current C.A.R.S. Rally Regulations and the rally regulations of the British Columbia Region, Rally Pacific Motorsports Association. These publications are available from Paul Westwick, Regional Rally Director, at 408 1169 Nelson St., Vancouver BC V6E 1J3 or by phoning (604) 682-3296 or westwick@istar.ca and will be available for scrutiny at the start.
The official name of the events are "The Edge Rally" and “The Rock Rally”and they are organized by the Nanaimo Sports Car Club, PO Box 267, Nanaimo BC V9R 5K9

Edge of the Rock 1998 will be the third year of Pro rally in BC and will be part of the BC performance rally championship. All awards and trophies to be distributed will be posted at registration. Registration for both Edge & Rock will be on Friday June 12 will be at the Silver Bridge Inn, 140 Trans Canada Highway, Duncan BC. Scrutineering will be at Metro Toyota, a few kilometers north, at 6529 Trans Canada Hwy. There will be a Parc Exposé at Metro Toyota, followed by a press stage. The directions from the start at the Silver Bridge Inn to the Press stage (also stage one Saturday) will give exact mileages which should be used for doing an odometer check. There will be a long lunch/service break Saturday which will mark the end of Edge.
The Rock will commence from the same lunch/service area, finishing at the end of the last stage. Then we transit back at the Silver Bridge Inn on Saturday night. Portable toilet facilities will be provided at service area. There will be directions given for return to the Silver Bridge Inn, where we will be doing results.
Early registration at reduced fee. $275 Cdn till June 1. ($200 U.S.
funds).
Late registration from June 2 till end of registration June 12 $350 Cdn

We will be using the mainline logging roads around Mt.Waterloo and Lois Lake on the Koksilah Ridge just southwest of Duncan BC with the occasional foray onto lesser roads. There will be a total stage distance of about 72 miles or 116 km in 9 stages for Edge, and 77 miles or 124 km in another 8 stages for Rock. The total transits for both Edge of the Rock will be about 53 miles total and none will be on open public roads except from the official start point at the Silver Bridge Inn and return there at the end of the day.
Both crew members must have a CARS regional license or higher. Residents of the USA who do not hold a CARS license may compete with an SCCA Divisional Pro Rally license.
A minimum of a St.John Ambulance or equivalent "Emergency First Aid" certificate is required for all CARS licensed competitors. A fine of $25 will be levied for each uncertified CARS licensed competitor.
Any cars without numbers will be assigned a temporary number just for this rally.
Crews will be responsible for their own meals, accommodation, fuel and all other expenses. The Silver Bridge Inn is giving a group rate of $55 ($10 more for kitchen units). Call early to register with them at (250)748-4311 or 1-888-858-2200 and be sure to ask for the Edge of the Rock Rally group rate. There are other groups competing for these rooms so you must call early. Please use the toll free number only to call in your reservation.
May 6, we now have a source for 110 Octane racing fuel. You must contact Glyn Trafford to make arrangements as to amount wanted, payment, etc.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR USA COMPETITORS
Vehicles registered in any of the United States of America shall be acceptable
provided that they meet the requirements of the current SCCA Rally Rules.
Entrants whose cars are entered under this provision must be able to produce,
upon request by the officials of the event, a copy of the SCCA Pro Rally
Rules. Failure to produce these rules may result in the vehicle being judged
according to CARS rules.
There is a new provision within the SCCA which allows rallies in other countries to be counted for Divisional points. The Edge and The Rock, have requested this approval under this provision.
