Frank Manley

Dad passed peacefully a little after midnight. Joan is doing amazingly
well, and having her sister Claudette nearby has been wonderful for
all of us. Thank you for your treasured friendship and good wishes.
I've heard both your names spoken of fondly numerous times over the
years.

Folks, The SCCA lost one of its oldest members last night, both in his
age and years of membership (over 50 as a driver and then steward). I
am not sure, but Frank might well have been our longest living member.
If not, he certainly would have been close.
Frank Manley was a tower of leadership in Seattle for many years, and
was a dear friend.
Frank Manley is gone. He will be missed.

Thanks for sharing the news of Frank's passing with us. Frank and Joan
became wonderful friends of ours while Joyce and I lived in the NW from
77 - 81 and again from 88 - 90. They taught us much about SCCA,
especially timing and scoring. Joan watched our oldest daughter while
Joyce worked T&S. Frank never failed to share the wealth of his
experience with this fledgling sports car nut.
The world was made a better place by Frank and Joan, and is certainly a
poorer place with his passing.
I know he was a close friend to many of you who've stayed up there in
God's Country, and you'll certainly be in our thoughts and prayers.

Frank Dewey Manley, 90, formerly of Bellevue,
Washington, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011, in Kansas City,
Kansas.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, January 29, 2011, at The Grand Court of Kansas City, 501 W.
170th. A final service will take place at a later date in Lincoln,
Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his
name to the Cedar Cove Feline Sanctuary and Education Center
(www.saveoursiberians.org) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Born in Wichita, Kansas, and graduated from East High School, Frank
started working for Boeing Aircraft (then called Stearman) in Wichita at
its inception in May 1939 and retired in 1987 from the plant in Everett,
Washington. He traveled the world as a field service engineer serving
both domestic and foreign assignments.
Frank was a lifetime member of the amateur Sports Car
Club of America as both a driver and chief steward, the International
Race Drivers Club, and the Society of Vintage Racing Enthusiasts. He was
a member of the Overlake Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, Washington,
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joan Scott
Manley, a daughter from a previous marriage, Marlis Broadhead,
grandchildren Linda Vaughan, Nancy Culp, Stephen Klein, and Emily
Kuhlman, and six great grandchildren.

Team Seattle recognized long time member
Frank Manley on the wing end caps of the #41 Team Seattle Car at the
Daytona 24 hour race earlier this year. A wonderful touch for someone
who gave so much of himself to racing. Thank you Andy Collins and Don
Kitch and Team Seattle for this touching tribute..
