July 18-19-20, 2008. The Department of Homeland Security approached the Port of Bremerton in 2007 and requested the summer dates of July 25-August 2, 2008  to run a week long drill.  The Bremerton Motorsports Park BOD had no choice in the matter and two prime weekends were taken out of the summer schedule for 2008.  Since this covered our traditional dates we were unable to select other dates because clubs with more seniority had already selected.

So,  in reality they changed the dates slightly taking control of the track at 6:00 pm on Sunday July 27 through 6pm Friday August 1, 2008. This would not allow us to do a race and get the track cleaned up in time,  so these dates were not useable.  We were negotiating for the weekend before that with two groups.  One of those groups has finally decided they did not want to give up that weekend so we have no weekend in July.

September 27-28, 2008.  This is a date that we selected because it was available at the time. Knowing that the July date had already been striped from us by the Department of Homeland Security we had hoped this could give us an additional date to use as a race weekend. HOWEVER, this conflicts with a conference race weekend at Pacific Raceway and the Divisional Time Trials event in Reno Region and the Wild West Rally. 

We asked our  drivers to let us know if they wanted this weekend. We needed a commitment from at least 40 drivers to assure that we would at least break even.  As of the Race Committee meeting held June 23rd it was determined that there were not enough interested in attending the event. Only 4 drivers to date had even mentioned an interest in the event, only 2 by email. So, to save our monetary resources the Race Committee determined that it was in the best interest of our program to cancel the event.

What do we do instead? To help with our Northwest Region Road Racing Championship we assigned a Oregon Region event that will be a points event for all NWR Drivers attending. This event will be held at Portland International Raceway on October 18-19, 2008. The points from this event will be counted toward our championship. Just remember that you have to show your region as NWR to have the points counted so remember to check the results before they are final!
